『聖闘士星矢 -黄金魂 (Soul of Gold)』Interview Atsutoshi Umezawa by koi-nya
koi-nya: First of all, we would like to thank you for giving us a few minutes of your time to answer our questions. The idea of making an anime Saint Seiya with the Golden Knights as protagonists (and also with Divine Armor), from where came? Maybe because they are the most popular anime characters?
Atsutoshi Umezawa: The main reason was our passion for the series, we said, "we see a new anime series Saint Seiya!". However, as Mr. Kurumada (the original creator of the manga) is performing the continuation of the story of Seiya and Shiryu in "Saint Seiya Next Dimension" we think that we should not create a different sequel animated format. So, given its popularity, we considered enforcarlo to the Golden Knights, as they had not told much about them in the past and wanted to see for ourselves what the idea was derived. And so began the project.
koi-nya: In the first chapter we saw that the story of Leo Aiolia takes place in Asgard and even see in a flashback to Hilda, a character in the saga of Asgard in the original TV series and exclusive anime. Why they chose to, say, pick up somewhat this series or, at least, placing it as the basis for sould of Gold?
Atsutoshi Umezawa: When we raised the kind of story that every fan would want to do with the Golden Knights as protagonists, we think the most interesting thing would be to focus on the time gap between the sacrifice of the Golden Knights and the moment they reappear in "Hades Inferno". And to perform this story, we thought it would be the best location Asgard. In addition, we should develop the anime so as not to conflict with "Next Dimension".
koi-nya: Certainly, it is remarkable how simultaneous distribution of anime in over two hundred countries around the world. Few companies who decide to take this path. What has led them to take this initiative?
Atsutoshi Umezawa: So far, the popularity of Saint Seiya is not limited to Japan, but has managed to be a work of international scope, gaining almost the same fame in many countries around the world. Therefore, when distributing this new series we wanted to share with all fans of Saint Seiya the world, and then he left the decision to broadcast it simultaneously in 200 countries.
koi-nya: While in Saint Seiya Omega Pegasus Fantasy Make-up was used as the first opening of the series, in sould of Gold have opted for a version of the legendary Soldier's Dream of Hironobu Kageyama. Do they seek to appeal to the nostalgia of the fans with this issue?
Atsutoshi Umezawa: When we were thinking about songs that are associated with Saint Seiya fans (especially those of the Golden Knights), could not say more than "Soldier's Dream". But it would be pointless to present the same song as it is if the series is new, so we created a new "Soldier's Dream" that matched the anime changing voices and arrangements.
koi-nya: The picture just happens to Sailor Moon, also from Toei Animation, every two weeks is issued. Why the frequency emission is due?
Atsutoshi Umezawa: The audience that accesses the series so online is different than the traditional, because not all confined to a single medium. Some people see the episodes on TV from home, other than it does on the computer or mobile ... And at the prospect of access anytime, anywhere decided it would be better to throw chapters every two weeks.
koi-nya: We recently learned that Saint Seiya would have a new game called Saint Seiya: Soul Soldier's PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. During our meeting with the producer of the title, Ryo Mito, she told us that the game would have several items sould of Gold, showing the trailer for the game Leo Aiolia with his Divine Armor. What kind of relationship they have with the team Mito to give information about the anime? ¿They supervise their work somehow? Is it difficult to coordinate with Dimps, the studio is developing the game?
Atsutoshi Umezawa: We maintain close communication, of course. And not just with Mr. Mito, but also with all the staff responsible for the development of the title. Together we present our ideas and we had a wonderful working towards presenting the fans the best result in both video game and anime format.
koi-nya: And the round ends with a question raised by the Crunchyroll own, "there will be more material coming from Saint Seiya?". The final answer Mr. Umezawa is clear:
Atsutoshi Umezawa: Of course. We ourselves are eager to continue. But for this we need your whole Cosmos (support). Thank you!
