That interview I found in 2ch a few days ago was fully scanned by some kind people in a chinese forum (All4Seiya); they also posted some character design stuff from NewType(?). It’s all here. They transcribed the important parts of both Reiko Yoshida’s characterization comments and the stuff Producer Wakabayashi had to say about the designs:

9 Q8 _( Y" s5 J8 U: U5 y-Mars’ minions (the Martians) are inspired by INSECTS. Mars has been planning his invasion for a very long time and after studying Earth’s ecosystem he decided INSECTS were the most adaptable creatures in the planet and thus based his invasion army on them. |
